The Strokes continue building anticipation for their upcoming seventh studio album, Reality Awaits, with the release of the official music video for “Going Shopping,” featuring acclaimed actor Walton Goggins in a playful starring role. Directed by longtime collaborator Johann Rashid, the visual arrives just weeks before the band’s new album lands on July 24 via RCA Records, offering fans another glimpse into the group’s first full-length release since The New Abnormal.
Rather than creating a conventional performance video, The Strokes looked to one of music video’s most beloved classics for inspiration. The band wanted to recreate the spirit of Paul Simon’s iconic “You Can Call Me Al” video, which famously featured actor Chevy Chase lip-syncing alongside Simon. For their own modern interpretation, they set their sights on Walton Goggins, who quickly embraced the idea despite filming a feature movie in the Canary Islands. According to the band, Goggins enthusiastically responded with, “Let’s go shopping!”
Late last month, Julian Casablancas and members of the band traveled to Tenerife, off the coast of Morocco, to meet Goggins on location. The resulting video blends surreal humor, charismatic performances, and Rashid’s signature visual style while capturing the effortless chemistry between the band and the Emmy-winning actor. The collaboration gives “Going Shopping” a memorable visual identity that complements the song’s offbeat energy.
“Going Shopping” first arrived in April as the opening preview of Reality Awaits, followed shortly afterward by “Falling Out of Love,” which The Strokes debuted during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Together, the two singles suggest another stylistic evolution for the New York rock icons while preserving the sharp songwriting, melodic hooks, and garage rock spirit that have defined the band’s career for more than two decades.
The arrival of Reality Awaits follows a period of renewed momentum for The Strokes after acclaimed performances at Coachella earlier this year. That momentum continues with an extensive world tour spanning North America, Europe, South America, and Asia. The schedule includes sold-out performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Outside Lands, The O2 in London, Accor Arena in Paris, Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, and a hometown headline performance at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens alongside Beach House, TV on the Radio, and Fcukers.

Since emerging from New York City‘s downtown rock revival with Is This It in 2001, The Strokes have become one of the defining bands of modern indie rock, influencing countless artists across alternative, garage rock, and post-punk revival. More than 25 years into their career, the band continues to evolve without losing the unmistakable sound that first made them one of the most influential rock acts of the 21st century.
With Reality Awaits arriving on July 24, “Going Shopping” offers another compelling preview of what’s shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest rock releases.
