Swedish producer, songwriter, and electronic music innovator Galantis continues unveiling his most personal project to date with a bold reinterpretation of Frankie Valli’s timeless classic “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” arriving Tuesday, August 4. The release marks the third preview of his upcoming EP, The Devil’s Tax Return: Vol. 1, due October 16 via Ninja Tune imprint Counter Records.
The new single follows the previously released tracks “Do You Mind” and “Stay Alive,” further introducing an ambitious collection that revisits influential songs from different eras while reshaping them through Galantis’ signature electronic production.
Rather than offering a straightforward cover, Christian “Bloodshy” Karlsson dismantles one of pop music’s most recognizable love songs before rebuilding it into something entirely new. The familiar chorus erupts into an explosive wall of synths, transforming the original into a dance-floor anthem while preserving the songwriting that has made the Frankie Valli classic endure for decades.
Speaking about the release, Karlsson explained that the song’s timeless construction made it impossible to ignore.
“‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ isn’t from the same era as the other songs on the EP, but it felt right to include because it’s so timeless, and where it ended up sonically just seemed to fit. From a songwriting perspective, I’d always found that song so interesting and unique. I wanted to take it apart and put it back together to understand what made it so special.”
That spirit of experimentation defines The Devil’s Tax Return: Vol. 1, a project that looks back at songs that shaped Karlsson during the creative period surrounding the formation of Miike Snow while allowing him to revisit them without the expectations of commercial pop songwriting.
The six-track EP features reimagined versions of songs originally recorded by artists spanning multiple decades and genres, including Frankie Valli, José González, Paleface featuring Kyla, The Killers, Feist, and The War on Drugs. Instead of recreating the originals, Karlsson uses each composition as a launching point for bold electronic reinterpretations that blur the lines between nostalgia and reinvention.

The upcoming EP includes:
- Stay Alive
- Do You Mind
- Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
- When You Were Young
- 1234
- Red Eyes
“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” follows two previous singles that have already hinted at the project’s adventurous direction. “Stay Alive” transformed José González’s melancholy songwriting into an emotionally charged electronic composition, while “Do You Mind” revisited Paleface and Kyla’s influential 2007 UK bassline and R&B anthem through Galantis’ modern production lens.
Beyond the studio, Galantis continues bringing this new era to audiences worldwide. Following recent festival appearances at Electric Forest and Canada’s VELD Music Festival, Karlsson also launched the San Francisco edition of MIDSOMMAR, his immersive event celebrating friendship, renewal, and community through music.
The MIDSOMMAR series continues throughout the summer with upcoming stops in Chicago, New York City, and Denver, alongside international performances in Singapore and Indonesia and headline club dates across North America.

The release also highlights the remarkable longevity of Karlsson’s career. Before launching Galantis, he established himself as one of pop music’s most celebrated producers under the name Bloodshy, co-writing and producing Britney Spears’ Grammy-winning hit “Toxic.”
Since Galantis debuted at Coachella in 2014, the project has generated more than 11 billion global streams while producing dance music staples including “Runaway (U & I),” “Peanut Butter Jelly,” “No Money,” “Faith” featuring Dolly Parton, and “Heartbreak Anthem” with David Guetta and Little Mix.
With The Devil’s Tax Return: Vol. 1, Karlsson appears less interested in chasing another chart hit than exploring the songs that shaped him as an artist. The result is a collection that honors classic songwriting while filtering it through the inventive electronic production that has defined Galantis for more than a decade.
