WILLOW continues the rollout for her upcoming album The Thread with the release of her new single, “She’s My Religion,” offering another glimpse into what promises to be one of 2026’s most ambitious alternative R&B releases. The song arrives ahead of The Thread, which is scheduled for release on July 24.
Built around lush pop melodies, syncopated rhythms, and atmospheric production, “She’s My Religion” explores spirituality through the lens of the divine feminine. WILLOW describes the song as a tribute to a timeless archetype found across cultures throughout history.
“The Divine Mother archetype has roots in nearly every culture on Earth, dating back to ancient times. This song is for her.”
The single further establishes the direction of The Thread, which WILLOW has described as a “devotional” album. The project examines higher consciousness, spiritual evolution, feminine energy, and humanity’s search for connection through an expansive sonic palette that blends progressive R&B, alternative jazz, meditative soundscapes, and atmospheric soul.
Produced alongside longtime collaborator Chris Greatti, The Thread continues WILLOW’s evolution as one of contemporary music’s most adventurous artists. While her previous releases frequently embraced stylistic experimentation, this album places equal emphasis on melodic precision and intentional songwriting, balancing philosophical themes with emotionally immediate performances.
“She’s My Religion” follows last month’s release of lead single “Talk On The Hill,” which first introduced listeners to the album’s introspective atmosphere. Together, the two songs suggest a record rooted less in traditional pop structures than in immersive musical storytelling, where spiritual themes and personal reflection intertwine.
Over the past decade, WILLOW has built one of modern music’s most unpredictable and respected catalogs. Beginning with the neo-soul influences of Ardipithecus, she later explored psychedelic folk on WILLOW, embraced pop-punk on lately I feel EVERYTHING, and ventured into experimental hard rock before earning widespread critical acclaim for 2024’s empathogen. That album received two Grammy Award nominations while debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, further cementing her reputation as an artist who refuses to be confined by genre.
Her creative momentum continued with petal rock black, a self-written, self-produced project incorporating jazz, classical, and Indigenous musical influences alongside collaborations with George Clinton, Tune-Yards, and Kamasi Washington. That release highlighted WILLOW’s growing confidence as a producer, composer, guitarist, and vocalist while laying the creative foundation for The Thread.

Beyond her recorded work, WILLOW has become known for captivating live performances, including appearances on Saturday Night Live and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. Combined with more than one billion streams for “Wait A Minute!,” her career has demonstrated an unusual balance between mainstream success and artistic experimentation.
With “She’s My Religion,” WILLOW once again expands the boundaries of alternative pop and progressive R&B while remaining grounded in deeply personal songwriting. As anticipation builds toward The Thread, the new single suggests an album that is less concerned with commercial expectations than with creating an immersive, emotionally resonant listening experience rooted in spirituality, vulnerability, and creative freedom.
