Basement return with new song “The Way I Feel” from their upcoming album WIRED, out May 8 via Run For Cover Records. The track marks the latest preview of the WIRED album and signals the band’s first full-length release in over eight years.
“The Way I Feel” captures Basement’s balance of urgency and restraint, driven by producer John Congleton’s raw, unpolished production style. Built around an anthemic core, the track channels the energy of a packed, sweat-soaked venue while maintaining a sense of emotional tension just beneath the surface.
Basement’s “The Way I Feel” centers on internal conflict. Vocalist Andrew Fisher describes the song as existing in the space before a major decision, where self-doubt, conviction, and the need for validation collide. That tension runs throughout the track, with moments of sincerity undercut by subtle irony, leaving its meaning intentionally open-ended.
“The Way I Feel” is the latest glimpse into the WIRED album, which has been shaped over several years of writing and refinement. The band approached the record with a renewed sense of independence, moving away from the constraints of a major label and returning to a more collaborative and intuitive process.
That reset followed the release of 2018’s Beside Myself, after which Basement stepped back to reassess their direction. During that period, the band faced uncertainty about whether to continue at all. Those conversations ultimately reinforced their creative bond, laying the groundwork for what would become the WIRED album.
Earlier singles from the WIRED album, including “WIRED” and “Broken By Design,” highlighted the record’s range. Where the title track leans into explosive hooks and forward momentum, “Broken By Design” pulls back into a more subdued and introspective space. Basement’s “The Way I Feel” sits between those extremes, blending immediacy with reflection.

The band’s resurgence has also been amplified by renewed attention around their catalog. Their track “Covet” saw a viral revival on TikTok, earning Gold certification more than a decade after its original release and introducing Basement to a new audience.
With the WIRED album, Basement aim to deliver their most definitive statement to date. The record embraces imperfection, energy, and collective input, with Congleton’s production amplifying both precision and volatility across its 12 tracks.
Following the album’s release, Basement will head out on a European tour, including a major appearance at All Points East in London this August. North American dates are expected to be announced soon.
As May 8 approaches, Basement’s “The Way I Feel” positions the WIRED album as a decisive return, not just after time away, but with a sharper and more intentional sense of identity.
