Four-time GRAMMY winner Sierra Ferrell has released “Trying to Love You,” her first new single of 2026 and her latest offering via Rounder Records. The release arrives as Ferrell continues her expansive Heavy Petal Tour, including a performance at San Francisco’s Outside Lands and upcoming dates at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Kia Forum and Shoreline Amphitheatre.
Written by Ferrell and produced by Gabriel Kelley, “Trying to Love You” follows a homebound journey colored by unresolved questions and the lingering memory of someone slipping away. Ferrell’s unmistakable voice carries the song across a richly textured roots arrangement that draws from country, folk and Americana without settling comfortably into any one tradition.
Kelley contributes percussion, piano, Wurlitzer, B-3 and guitars, alongside Matty Meyer on drums, Billy Contreras on fiddle, Pat Bergeson on harmonica and Viktor Krauss on bass. Oliver Bates Craven, Geoff Saunders, Joshua Rilko and Kelley provide background vocals.
Ferrell had already begun previewing “Trying to Love You” during recent Heavy Petal Tour performances before the August 7 release. The track now gives audiences the first official taste of new solo material from Ferrell this year following the success of her 2024 album Trail of Flowers.
The release coincides with another major stretch of Ferrell’s touring schedule. On August 7, she made her inaugural appearance at Outside Lands in San Francisco as part of a 2026 itinerary spanning nearly 50 performances.
The Heavy Petal Tour continues August 12 at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where Ferrell returns following a sold-out debut at the famed venue. The tour features a reimagined, carnivalesque stage production alongside location-specific show pieces, with sets mixing songs from Trail of Flowers with “Trying to Love You” and additional new material.
Her upcoming schedule also includes sold-out headline dates and festival appearances, as well as arena and amphitheater shows supporting Mumford & Sons and The Red Clay Strays. Ferrell previously joined Mumford & Sons for performances of “Here” on Saturday Night Live and Apple Music Sessions.
Among the most notable remaining dates are Farm Aid 2026 in Virginia Beach on September 26, two nights at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on October 6 and 7, and an October 8 performance at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View with Mumford & Sons. She will also join The Red Clay Strays for two nights at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on October 22 and 23.
Ferrell’s rise has taken her from performing at truck stops, on street corners and aboard boxcars to some of the country’s largest stages. Her idiosyncratic combination of Appalachian roots, country, bluegrass, folk and vintage pop has become central to a career that reached a new level with Trail of Flowers. “Trying to Love You” extends that world while opening the door to whatever comes next.
