Peter Hook is headed into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and back onto North American stages in 2026, marking two major milestones in a career that has helped define the sound of post-punk, alternative rock and electronic music for nearly five decades.
The founding Joy Division and New Order bassist is among the musicians being recognized with the two bands’ 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. The honor arrives as Peter Hook & The Light embark on an extensive North American tour built around New Order’s 2001 album Get Ready, performed in its entirety alongside selections from the catalogs of both Joy Division and New Order.
For Hook, the Hall of Fame recognition carries particular weight because the story encompasses two bands whose histories are inseparable but whose musical legacies became distinctly their own.
“I am so happy about being accepted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame you would not believe it!” Hook said in a statement. “It’s such a compliment to all the fans of Joy Division and New Order and now it’s been confirmed.”
Hook also paid tribute to three people essential to that history: late Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, manager Rob Gretton and Factory Records co-founder Tony Wilson.
“My thanks to Ian Curtis, Rob Gretton and Tony Wilson – your inspiration and hard work has meant everything to me,” he continued. “I will be delighted to be inducted and am looking forward to the night so much!”
Hook’s bass playing was fundamental to the sound of both Joy Division and New Order, with melodic, frequently high-register bass lines functioning as a lead instrument rather than simply anchoring the rhythm section. That approach became one of the most immediately recognizable elements connecting Joy Division’s stark post-punk to the increasingly electronic music New Order pursued during the decades that followed.
His current work with Peter Hook & The Light has turned that history into something more ambitious than a conventional greatest-hits tour. Since 2010, Hook has systematically returned to the albums he made with Joy Division and New Order, performing entire records and bringing songs back to the stage that might otherwise have remained buried deeper in the catalog.
The project began when Hook revisited Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures for a commemorative charity performance in May 2010. Since then, Peter Hook & The Light have worked through Closer, Still, Movement, Power, Corruption & Lies, Low-Life, Brotherhood, Technique, Republic and the Substance compilations. The group has now performed more than 800 shows.
The 2026 North American run turns its attention to Get Ready, New Order’s seventh studio album and a record Hook believes deserves a larger place in the band’s history.
Released in 2001, Get Ready reached No. 2 on Billboard’s electronic albums chart and No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart. Its best-known songs include “Crystal,” “60 Miles an Hour” and “Someone Like You,” while the album itself was dedicated to Gretton, who managed both Joy Division and New Order before his death in 1999.
“Get Ready was a honeymoon record,” Hook said. “Looking back now it was very enjoyable to make, and I think is massively underrated.”
The album also captured New Order at a complicated transitional point. For the upcoming performances, that history creates an opportunity to revisit material that never received the same live exposure as some of the group’s canonical recordings.
“I am looking forward to playing all the tracks, many of which had never been played live before these Get Ready dates,” Hook said. “The Light will shine through.”

The 22-date North American tour launched August 22 at Bogart’s in Cincinnati before moving through Cleveland, Toronto, Chicago, Royal Oak, Minneapolis and other cities. September brings an extensive stretch through Boston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix and the West Coast.
Northern California gets two consecutive opportunities to see the show. Peter Hook & The Light perform at The Warfield in San Francisco on September 21, followed by The Mountain Winery in Saratoga on September 22. The tour then continues to Seattle and Portland before concluding September 27 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver.
The timing gives the Get Ready tour an added sense of retrospection. Hook is no longer simply revisiting albums from his own past. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction formally places the work of Joy Division and New Order within the institution’s historical canon at the same moment he is continuing to perform that music himself.
For audiences, that means the songs are not being treated as museum pieces. More than 45 years after Joy Division released Unknown Pleasures, Hook is still putting the catalog through amplifiers, taking it from city to city and allowing multiple generations to experience the music in a live setting.
