Nine Inch Nails are pushing further into their electronic edge with Nine Inch Noize, a new collaborative project with Boys Noize arriving April 17 via Interscope Records. The release lands just ahead of their return to Coachella, where the group will perform a special set in the Sahara tent on April 18.
What started as a live experiment during the band’s Peel It Back tour has quickly evolved into something more defined. Bringing Boys Noize into the fold allowed Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to reimagine Nine Inch Nails through a more purely electronic lens, stripping the material down and rebuilding it with club-driven intensity.
The project pulls from across the Nine Inch Nails catalog, transforming staples like “Closer” alongside material tied to Reznor and Ross’ film scoring work and How to Destroy Angels. Recorded across studios, hotel rooms, and on the road, Nine Inch Noize leans into spontaneity while maintaining the controlled chaos that has long defined the band’s sound.
The live debut of the concept at Coachella has already generated heavy buzz. Early reactions from critics point to a set that feels like an extension of the Nine Inch Nails universe, with a sharper focus on rhythm, atmosphere, and physicality.

The timing is deliberate. After a massive touring cycle that drew more than 700,000 fans globally, the band is using Nine Inch Noize as both a reset and a bridge. It reconnects their industrial roots with contemporary electronic production, while opening the door to whatever comes next.
For now, the Coachella performance stands as the only confirmed live appearance of the project, giving the release a sense of immediacy. A one-night-only showcase of a concept that may or may not return in this exact form.
