Machine Gun Kelly and Wiz Khalifa have always made a certain kind of sense together. Not because they sound the same, but because they meet in the middle somewhere between chaos and ease. “girl next door” taps right back into that.
Out now, the new single leans into a softer, more hypnotic lane than either artist’s louder moments. Built on a sample from indie electronic duo Sweet Trip, the track drifts between dream-pop haze and low-end pulse, giving both artists room to stretch out without forcing anything. mgk slides between melody and rhythm with a looseness that feels intentional, while Wiz stays grounded, cutting through the track with that familiar calm delivery.
It’s their first collaboration since “Mind of a Stoner” in 2013, and what stands out isn’t nostalgia. It’s how natural the pairing still feels. There’s no sense of chasing a past moment. If anything, “girl next door” sounds like two artists who have figured out how to scale things back without losing presence.
The video follows that same instinct. Directed by Sam Cahill alongside Gianni Paolo, it plays with a kind of low-stakes surrealism, moving through fragmented, slightly off-kilter scenes that never fully resolve. It matches the song’s mood without over-explaining it.
The timing is deliberate. Wiz Khalifa joins mgk starting May 15 for the second North American leg of the lost americana tour, a run that’s already been pushing mgk further into genre-blurring territory. That shift has been building for a while. lost americana marked his third straight No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock and Alternative Albums chart, while recent singles have swung hard between extremes, from the abrasive “FIX UR FACE” to something as laid-back as this.

For Wiz, the momentum looks different but just as steady. He’s been moving through releases and live runs at a pace that keeps him visible without overextending, from Khaotic to the short-run Macrodose Tour.
“girl next door” doesn’t try to be a statement record. It doesn’t need to be. It works because it understands the moment it’s built for. Windows down, late night, nothing too heavy, just enough weight underneath to keep it from floating away.
