There’s a certain kind of chemistry you don’t fake, and Anderson .Paak and DEAN still have it.
More than a decade after their last collaboration, the two reconnect on “Aftertaste,” a smooth, late-night groove that lands with intention rather than nostalgia. The track is out now, pairing .Paak’s elastic charisma with DEAN’s controlled, almost hypnotic delivery.
Built on a foundation of crisp drums and soft, drifting synths, “Aftertaste” moves between club energy and something more intimate. DEAN takes the lead in the early moments, leaning into restraint, while .Paak cuts through with a sharper, more immediate presence. It’s a push-pull dynamic that gives the track its edge, playful on the surface but precise underneath.
The release also ties directly into .Paak’s expanding creative orbit. “Aftertaste” pulls inspiration from his upcoming feature film K-POPS!, which arrives on Netflix May 30 and marks his directorial debut. The project continues a run that has seen him move fluidly between music, film, and live performance without losing coherence.
Earlier this year, he dropped “Keychain” with aespa, a genre-blurring track that hinted at a broader, cross-cultural direction. “Aftertaste” sharpens that focus, leaning more into R&B while still carrying the global influence that’s become central to his recent work.

Outside the studio, .Paak’s momentum hasn’t slowed. Between a growing list of collaborations, a major touring run alongside Bruno Mars, and recognition as one of TIME’s most influential artists of the year, he’s operating at a scale that few can match.
What makes “Aftertaste” hit is its restraint. It doesn’t try to overstate the reunion or force a moment. Instead, it lets the chemistry speak for itself, slipping easily into rotation as both a mood piece and a reminder that some collaborations don’t expire.
