South Korean indie rock sensation Wave to Earth have officially begun their next chapter with the release of “heaven and hell,” a thoughtful and emotionally charged new single accompanied by a cinematic music video filmed in Mexico.
The song marks the trio’s first new release since 2024’s play with earth! 0.03 and arrives as anticipation continues to build for the band’s next body of work. Known for blending jazz, indie rock, lo-fi textures, and introspective songwriting, Wave to Earth once again leans into atmosphere and philosophy on a track that questions the way people define happiness, suffering, and purpose.
“Each person has their own version of heaven and hell,” bassist John Cha explained. “But the world cannot be divided in a binary form. Rather than trying to find a heaven and hell, what’s most important is trying to find out how we should live in our current life.”
That perspective sits at the center of the song’s lyrical core. Rather than offering clear answers, “heaven and hell” invites listeners to sit with uncertainty and reflect on the complexities that exist between extremes. The result is a meditative and emotionally resonant track that feels perfectly aligned with the band’s signature style.
The accompanying video expands on those themes through a moving narrative set in a small Mexican town. Directed by Argentine filmmaker Maureen Hufnagel, the visual follows two brothers navigating love, courage, and the challenges of growing up. The film’s warm landscapes and intimate storytelling create a striking counterpart to the song’s contemplative mood.
Mexico holds a special significance for the band. Frontman Daniel Kim recalled the group’s first visit to the country during their 2025 tour and the lasting impression it left behind.
“When we arrived there, we felt a special sort of feeling. Hard to describe,” Kim shared. “When we finished making ‘heaven and hell,’ we felt an energy in the air that reminded us of the scenery of Mexico, the air we felt in Mexico.”

Since forming in 2019, Wave to Earth have steadily evolved from a rising Korean indie act into one of the genre’s most globally recognized names. Their breakout album 0.1 flaws and all introduced millions of listeners to their dreamy soundscapes, while songs such as “bad” and “seasons” helped establish an international fanbase that continues to grow.
The band’s momentum has been undeniable. They currently boast more than 7 million monthly Spotify listeners, while “seasons” has surpassed 500 million streams. Their touring footprint has expanded across North America, Europe, Asia, and major international festivals including Lollapalooza Chicago, Lollapalooza Chile, and Lollapalooza India.
Their most recent EP, play with earth! 0.03, debuted at No. 5 on Spotify’s Top Albums Debut Global chart and fueled a completely sold-out North American tour, further cementing their status as one of the most exciting exports in contemporary indie music.
With “heaven and hell,” Wave to Earth aren’t simply returning with a new song. They’re signaling the beginning of another creative evolution, one that continues to blend philosophical reflection, global influences, and the intimate songwriting that has made them a standout force in modern indie rock.
Further new music is expected soon.
