Carly Rae Jepsen has officially unveiled her next musical era with the release of “On Wires,” the lead single from her newly announced double album Day and Night. Set for release on September 18 via Interscope Records, the 24-track project marks Jepsen’s first full-length studio album since The Loneliest Time and arrives as one of the most ambitious releases of her career.
Out today, “On Wires” serves as the first introduction to an album built around two distinct but interconnected worlds. Split into 12 songs for Day and 12 songs for Night, the project explores the emotional and sonic contrasts that exist between light and darkness, certainty and doubt, intimacy and escapism.
According to Jepsen, Day and Night captures a dreamlike sense of time where evenings bleed into mornings and ordinary moments take on heightened emotional significance. To bring that vision to life, she reunited with longtime collaborators Tavish Crowe, Kyle Shearer, Nate Cyphert, and Cole M.G.N., developing separate sonic identities for each half of the album.
The Day portion leans into organic instrumentation, live performances, and touches of 1970s-inspired psychedelic pop, while Night shifts into a sleek, synth-driven landscape rooted in dance-pop and late-night emotional intensity. Together, the 24 songs move through themes of love, fear, joy, anxiety, fantasy, and self-discovery, creating what Jepsen describes as her most cohesive artistic statement to date.
The announcement arrives during a period when Jepsen’s influence on modern pop continues to grow. While she first achieved international stardom with the global success of 2012’s “Call Me Maybe,” her career has evolved far beyond that breakout moment. Over the past decade, she has become one of pop music‘s most respected songwriters, earning critical acclaim for projects that consistently prioritize craftsmanship, vulnerability, and inventive production.
Her 2015 album E•MO•TION remains a defining entry in contemporary pop, earning widespread recognition from critics and fans alike while surpassing one billion streams worldwide.
