John-Robert has announced his new EP Where Do You Wanna Go?, out April 17, alongside the release of his latest single “Did It Just Because.” The John-Robert Where Do You Wanna Go EP marks a turning point for the Virginia-born artist, arriving after a period of personal and professional reset.
The John-Robert Where Do You Wanna Go EP was shaped after he parted ways with his label and returned home to Virginia. That shift pulled him out of the cycle he had been in and forced a more direct question about what comes next. Instead of staying rooted in the acoustic folk sound he built his early following on, he leans into instinct, immediacy, and a broader sonic palette.
The new single, “Did It Just Because” by John-Robert, sets that tone early. Rather than framing infidelity through heartbreak, the track cuts straight to intention, stripping away excuses in favor of a blunt, self-aware perspective. The result is a song that feels lighter on the surface but sharper underneath, balancing a playful bounce with a more pointed lyrical core.
John-Robert has said the track was partially inspired by a moment from NPR Tiny Desk Concert, where emotional expectations are often flipped. That influence shows up in the way “Did It Just Because” resists melodrama and instead leans into clarity, letting the delivery carry the weight.
A new live performance video for John-Robert “Did It Just Because” arrives alongside the single, directed by Jacob Butler and featuring backing from Devin and Cameron Thistle of Saburnia. The stripped-down setup keeps the focus on his vocal tone, which remains the anchor of his sound even as the production expands.

Beyond the release, John-Robert tour dates 2026 are already in motion. He will support Buffalo Traffic Jam on a run of sold-out Colorado shows before launching his own headline tour across major cities including New York, Chicago, Nashville, and San Francisco. He is also set to appear at Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party, adding a key festival slot to the schedule.
John-Robert’s trajectory has never been linear. From performing as a teenager on national television to touring with artists like Leon Bridges and Liam Gallagher, he has consistently moved between spaces without fully settling into one. That sense of movement carried through his earlier EPs and sharpened with his independent releases in 2025.
With the John-Robert Where Do You Wanna Go EP, that movement becomes more intentional. The project does not try to answer the question in its title outright. Instead, it documents the moment he chose to ask it seriously and follow wherever it leads.
